  • 1 part of Pernod Absinthe
  • 1 part of simple syrup (1 part sugar / 1 part water)
  • 1 part of lime juice
  • 4 pars of water
  • ice and slices of cucumber

I am not afraid to start my amazing travel report with the recipe of the « Green Beast » cocktail, composed of Pernod Absinthe !

I have been invited by the brand Pernod Absinthe, with my friends (and bloggers) Diego El Glaoui, Man of a kind, Les Nanas d’Paname, Orgyness, Lappoms and Be Street.

Ibiza…

What about this trip ? In fact Pernod Absinthe invited us to live an authentic experience of Pernod Absinthe by discovering the world of Charles Vexenat, one of the best bartenders in the world (twice crowned world’s best mixologist in the world) and brand ambassador of Pernod Absinthe.

Ibiza … I see some of you smiling behind their screen. No, we didn’t discovered the Ibiza, the island of clubbing scenes, loud music and fake people.

No, in fact, we had an appointment with the beautiful Ibiza, authentic, secret, beautiful, a kind of interesting mix between hippie spirit and modernity, colorful. This island is the perfect place for friendliness, gastronomy and unforgettable moments.

Why Ibiza and Pernod Absinthe?

Absinthe was invented in Switzerland in the late 1700s but production actually began in France in 1805 in Pontarlier, by the company Pernod Fils. This is an alcohol of wormwood plants, its aniseed taste gradually had more and more success in France and in the world with artists, intellectuals and has long been associated with a form of lifestyle and culture. In fact, everybody drank absinthe and this absinthe spirit represented the majority of alcohol consumption in France.

But some anti-absinthe lobbyists have begun to criticize the absinthe spirit which was alleged to drive people crazy because of neuro-toxic molecule called thujone (but it was not true, the problem was the outrageously excessive consumption and the wrong way to drink absinthe)

Forbidden in 1913 for this reason, absinthe has always continued to be produced and sold in a small paradise island paradise – very poor at that time – and many artists in the early twentieth came in Ibiza.

After decades of ban, studies proved that absinthe was absolutely not dangerous (consumed in moderation, of course). A decree in France authorized at the end of the twentieth century that the production of absinthe could be restarted and Pernod group has started again its production in 2003, according to the original « savoir-faire » in a historical site in France and thanks to wormwood plants grown in France, in Pontarlier.

The reason why we’ve been invited to discover Ibiza ? The launching of the video designed by Charles Vexenat, the very wild brand ambassador of Pernod Absinthe, and the opening of his iconic bar, named Bar 1805.

Charles has long collaborated with the brand and in 2010 he created the recipe of a fresh, delicious and easy-to-make-at-home cocktail : The Green Beast.

He was one of the first bartenders to have a different view on absinthe, and to use it as a real ingredient base, and not only a flavouring ingredient.

We attended to a great travel composed of places in Ibiza that Charles Vexenat really loves, representing the friendly and authentic Ibiza he fell in love with. We arrived on the exact opening day of his ephemeral bar / restaurant named Bar 1805 (the name of the bar is reference to the year absinthe has been produced by Pernod and to his attachment to the brand).

Dinner behind the sea, secret beaches, amazing point of view on the « El Vedra » rock, delicious seafood that we share together, tasting different cocktails at the Hidden bar (thanks to Chris Edwards, the first man which enables Charles Vexenat to work on Ibiza few years ago).

And obviously, we had the chance to taste the original flavour of Pernod Absinthe, so refreshing. Cocktails made of this spirit are the best in the world. Obviously, most of the prestigious places around the world offer cocktails composed of Pernod Absinthe (such the Dead Rabbit in NYC, one of the best bars in the world).

It was a trip focused on Pernod Absinthe, but it was also a re-discovery of a typically French product, which is internationally influent.

France is rich of beautiful and tasty good products, around centuries-old traditions, and we have to be proud of it !

I really want to thank Pernod absinthe for this amazing trip !
